Casa no tempo (house without time)
By Aires Mateus, João and Andreia Rodrigues
This house is located one hour outside Lisbon, Portugal. The focus when designing the house was on the natural beauty of the rural landscape, acknowledging and respecting the cultural heritage of the site.
I believe the reason for the lack of windows is that the sun is strong most of the year in this location, so one way to keep a house cool without energy-consuming technology, is to limit the surface area of windows where the sun enters the house. The windows are located at specially selected ”framed” views to welcome the nature inside. Sometimes it’s a better experience not to get the whole view at once but rather thru a gradual sequence.
A beautiful vaulted entrance leads you into the center of the house, from where you can access all the rooms.
The traditional form of the house is timeless and inspired by the history of the site. Simplicity, elegance and with beautiful proportions, makes this house successful in my opinion.
You can actually rent the house and enjoy a peaceful escape of the grid. Casa no tempo
